Local senior turning 108, asking for birthday cards amidst quarantine

DEER PARK, Ohio (WKRC) – A Deer Park resident will turn 108 on Tuesday.

Staff at Wickshire Deer Park is asking for the community’s help by sending Mildred Kampman birthday cards.

“Because of the current conditions regarding COVID and orders in place, we are not planning any sort of party for Mom,” said Don Kampman, Mildred’s son. “Instead, I am contacting family, friends and the community and asking them to send her birthday cards. I hope she gets a bunch, she definitely deserves it.”

Kampman graduated from Lloyd Memorial High School in 1930 and earned an accounting degree from the University of Cincinnati. Her husband, Irwin, passed away in 1988 after forty-four years of marriage, leaving behind eleven grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren.

She volunteered at the Sycamore Senior Center as a cashier at the lunch counter until after her 100th birthday.
